Autodesk Network License Changes

Autodesk is transitioning all multi-user/network subscription and maintenance plans to named user. Once the transition is complete, serial numbers will no longer exist—and all user/license management will take place in the software administrators Autodesk account.

Autodesk is offering trade in programs to encourage the transition. The renewal date on your contract is critical to the timing for your company. Here’s the information you need to navigate the transition:

Renewal date before August 7th 2020

• Subscription users will renew for a 1-year term. 2 and 3-year terms are no longer available. Trade-in offers will be available at next renewal after August 7^th 2020.

First Renewal date after August 7^th 2020

• Take trade-in offer: Multi-user subscription and network maintenance licenses can be traded in for two named user licenses at a similar SRP. Ex. Trade in 10 multi-user subscription licenses for 20 named-user licenses for a similar yearly cost. Cost savings and discounts continue to 2028 with standard price increases.
  • If contract with renewal date after August 7^th 2020 is renewed early, trade-in offer will be unavailable and the renewal will count as first renewal. Trade in offer will not be available in the future. To take trade-in offer, contract should be renewed after August 7^th 2020.
• Refuse trade-in offer: Renew multi-user subscription or network maintenance (20% price increase on maintenance) licenses for final year. Lose access to trade-in offer.

August 7^th 2021 cutoff

• End of maintenance renewal
  • Keep perpetual seat at current version
  • Purchase new named user licenses at full SRP
• End of multi-user subscription renewal
  • Purchase new named user licenses at full SRP (less than network SRP)

Trade-in offer

• At time of first renewal after August 7^th 2020 all multi-user subscription and network maintenance seats can be traded in for two named user seats at similar cost.
• At time of first renewal after August 7^th 2020 all standalone maintenance seats can be traded in for a single named user subscription at the same price paid for maintenance renewal in 2019.
• The renewal price for subscriptions obtained through this offer will increase by no more than 5% in 2021, 2023, 2025, and 2027—with no changes for 2022, 2024, 2026 and 2028.

Conclusion

The complete transition to a software-as-a-service named user licensing model is taking place for all Autodesk accounts. The transition will take a few years, but Autodesk is incentivizing users to make the switch early. The trade in offer allows organizations to double multi-user or network licenses at a similar cost to what they are paying now and convert standalone maintenance licenses at their current renewal price. If the trade in offer is not used, the cost savings is lost, and future named licenses must be purchased and renewed at their full retail price.
