AU 2011 Highlights
Autodesk University 2011 has now passed. Just a week ago, we were in the midst of thousands of attendees trying to share and receive as much information from each other as possible.
Given the gigantic nature of the conference, it’s impossible to see it all on your own. Every year, I just want to see more, squeezing as much new information into my head as possible. There was no problem with finding opportunities for that, the conference was very busy and there was lots to pack in.
Overall, I’d say that this year was a great AU experience, with a lot of highlights. My number one highlight is meeting so many interesting people. It’s nice to meet others that are so passionate about what they do. My second highlight would be seeing a lot of great classes. Following are my top three favorite that I attended:
- Floating Away: Connecting AutoCAD® Civil 3D® with HEC-RAS for Floodplain Mapping
- Great custom utilities to make the process for migrating data between the two programs.
- Automating Autodesk® Navisworks® Clash Reports
- Interesting use of Revit Journal files and the Navisworks API to batch process Navisworks clashes overnight.
- Educating the Masses: Teaching BIM from Undergraduate to Postgraduate Level
- Very entertaining presentation regarding teaching BIM to college students and how it’s integrated into their own design projects.
I particularly liked seeing what others are doing to solve problems that have no straight out-of-the-box solutions. It’s interesting to see how people solve these types of problems.
Finally, there’s a lot more that I would like to have done at AU. Mainly, I wish that I could have connected with more people. There’s always next year though, right?
